Ashia Suleman

I am a 25-year old Pakistani UC-graduate, and I am currently employed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. For the past 7 years, I had dedicated my life to furthering my education as my first and only priority. I gained a lot of knowledge throughout the years about my position as a young, Pakistani adult. Although the field of science brought much joy into my life in the past, I recently decided to adjust my priorities and focus my attention to my art for the next couple of years. Art has the ability to spread messages in unimaginable ways. When I made the decision to get back into calligraphy, I explored prophetic art and realized a new passion. There is so much to appreciate when researching Islamic art. I believe art is an amazing way to portray Islam as the beautiful religion it stands to be. I am currently working on a project of a variety of pieces with Quranic references. It is an amazing experience as I read through the Quran and depict the poetic message with my own imagination. It is an expression of my pride of being a Muslim and my only hope is that people can appreciate it. Please follow me on instagram (www.instagram.com/ashiasuleman) for updates, and please enjoy!

Yasmine Suleiman

My name is Yasmine Suleiman and, for the most part, I grew up in Bakersfield, CA. Today, I live in San Luis Obispo- studying architecture at Cal Poly. Being an integral part of my life, art has pushed my into pursuing a creative profession. I've found that I'm driven between the functionality and aesthetic qualities in design. However, my personal art work reflects much of the work I've done in school so far. These pieces represent the sort of deconstructed aspect of my technique. Until recently, much of my work was very detailed and attempted to achieve hyper-realism. Now, my grip has loosened and the subjects take on abstracted forms. One could even say my work has taken on a graphic and geometric approach (which could be the result of my adjusting to an architectural psyche). Nonetheless, the lines, shapes, and patterns I create are authentic. I draw freely and work with the mistakes that begin to unfold. In a sense, these pieces convey the perfect synergism between the two extremes of my style of drawing and my exploration of the different poetics in design.
